It states in the family proclamation that children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony and to be reared by parents who honor their martial vows. The word "entitled" is an interesting choice to use in this statement, because entitlements are almost viewed as rights, and when sanctioned by God, as this proclamation says, then these are Godly rights. I think that God most likely wants his children to be born to married parents who are faithful to each other because it provides the best environment for success and happiness in this earth life. Of course, it does list happiness as 'most likely' in this setting rather than "gauranteed" because the subjective happiness of an individual does not typically rely upon their experiences but more on their general attitude and perceptions of said experiences.
There are nine things that the family proclamation lists for successful marriages, and it does not list communication (possibly because its not necessarily a gospel principle) some of my favorite aspects to focus on are prayer, repentance and forgiveness. These are important for me because couples that pray together can receive revelation together and make better decisions together, and forgiveness and repentance are crucial for two imperfect beings creating a relationship together. The proclamation also lists some qualities in parenting that are gender specific. For fathers, they are protect, provide and preside. They can do these spiritually through honoring their preisthood covenants and being an example to their sons. Mother's are primarily responsible for nurturing their children. This means unconditional christlike love.
