Each parent when raising children must exemplify certain qualities and values to bring them into the home. This can be done through general attitude, example, or simply discussing what is important to keep in the home.
To promote family values, we must also defend. There is a certain way to defend and share a testimony without completely shutting down another person and keeping them from gaining anything from the conversation. We must first put our self in their position and best understand the mindset that motivates their arguments. This will assist us in restating their position in a way that they agree with, which will give them a desire to come to a conclusion with you. When debating with any person of opposite belief, we should always respond and address the strongest point of their argument as opposed to the "weak links" in their philosophy. This can then lead to a conversation about personal respect and making decisions to agree to disagree.
Insights I gained from watching the video:
1. Their are bigots on both sides of the spectrum. It all depends on the perspective.
2. There are people out there who still believe people in this church are bigoted and attack you for it.
3. When some people are emotionally charged, the advice "a soft voice turneth away wrath" really affects the outcome.
